26 Elul – 3 Tishri

Torah Portion: Nitzavim Deuteronomy 29:9-30:20

Napa is never a suit & tie atmosphere, but we dress with intention and thoughtfulness for special occasions.

In Judaism, the tradition of wearing white for Shabbat is extended into Rosh Ha Shanah and Yom Kippur.  The bride wears white at the wedding ceremony, medical professionals and those who prepare food wear white to also show purity and cleanliness.  White clothing is difficult to keep clean, just as it is difficult to engage in the difficult spiritual and psychological work of the Days of Awe.

So if you're able, consider wearing a white shirt or top for the services coming up.  You'll have prepared yourself in a distinctly traditional, visible way to welcome 5769.

Angelic Tashlich:

Many Jewish communities gather at a moving body of water to extend the yontifdik (holiday) feeling of Rosh HaShanah for Tashlich.  This year we'll symbolically cast away regrets with old bread, and watch nature remove these bits of trouble. 4:30pm on September 30th at the Napa River Walk on the river side beside restaurant Angele.

Attention, all bicycle riders. After a hiatus, there will be a CBS bicycle ride on October 19 at 12:30.  This will be a level ride appropriate for all riders.  We will meet at the parking lot of Silverado Animal Hospital at the corner of Trancas and Silverado Trail.  Then head up the trail and possibly stop at one or two wineries where Rabbi Postrel will be blessing the grapes.  No need to RSVP, just show up.  Contact Paul Bloomberg at paul@pauldavidgroup.com or 707-287-4728 with any questions
