As partners with God in Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), we are called to help bring nearer the Messianic Age. At Congregation Beth Sholom, we consider our social action program to be a central part of our religious observance and communal responsibility. As expression of Tikkun Olam, each month, congregants join to serve meals to the needy through “the Table” program.
Bikkur Cholim
Coordinator: Deb Bloomberg
Bikkur Cholim, visiting the sick, is a mitzvah, a commandment, that brings us closer to God and each other. When CBS has members who are not well and in need of medical and spiritual attention, we use a website that we developed to make it easier for our caring community to stay in touch and take action for those in need.
and when there is a need in our CBS community, you will be notified via email. The subject line of the emails will begin with "LHH" ("Lotsa Helping Hands") and will include a link that will take you directly to the CBS community website. You may decide how you want to respond in offering your help.
Sometimes there will be a calendar where you can sign up for a day. Or maybe it will just ask for you to call or drop a card to someone. You can also go on the website and alert others in the community of anyone that you know is in need or update the community about someone you just visited.
The more helping hands we have, the easier it is to provide care and comfort to our community!
Join a Committee!
Our various committees perform many of the tasks required to sustain our community. We invite you to join us as we work together (and have lots of fun!) to contribute to the growth of our synagogue. Look through the committee descriptions on the Leadership page to find a committee that suits your interests, skills, and abilities. Then, contact the committee chair to volunteer.
