Congregation Beth Shalom thrives through the dedication of our volunteers. From enriching our cultural life to supporting members in need, each volunteer committee offers a unique way to contribute your talents and connect with your Jewish community.

Whether you have just a few hours to give or want to take on a leadership role, there’s a perfect place for you to make a difference. Our committees welcome new members throughout the year, and no previous experience is necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and ideas!

Bikkur Cholim = Lotsa Helping Hands

Chair: This position currently vacant.

Supports members during times of illness or need through our online coordination platform. Volunteers provide meals, transportation, companionship, and other essential assistance to ensure no one faces challenges alone.

Building and Grounds

Chair: Roy Barush  

Oversees the maintenance of our synagogue campus, ensuring our spaces remain beautiful, safe, and welcoming. From routine upkeep to special event preparation, this committee keeps our facility ready for worship, education, and community gatherings.

Cemetery (Ner Tamid) Committee 

Chair: Marc Samrick

Manages our dedicated section within the St. Helena Cemetery, providing Jewish burial for our community members and their families. The committee oversees plot sales, maintenance, and adherence to Jewish burial traditions.

Display Committee

Co-Chairs: Lauran Posner & Sally Besser 

Curates engaging exhibits in our lobby display cases, sharing Jewish art, culture, and congregation history. The committee manages both temporary and permanent collections, and also covers sales and acquisitions. 

Fundraising Committee

Chair: Lara Shumer & Cynthia Cohen

Creates and implements creative fundraising initiatives to sustain our synagogue’s financial health. Organizes engaging events and programs that support our congregation and build community.

Kitchen Committee

Chair: Sandi Hyman  

Maintains our kitchen facilities, ensuring proper food handling practices and adequate supplies for community events. Supports both regular activities and special celebrations.

Library Committee

Chair: Carla Del Porto 

Oversees the Conrey Library, curating our collection of Jewish books and resources. Manages acquisitions, cataloging, and technology to create an inviting space for learning and discovery.

Membership Committee

Chair: Nancy Goldstein

Welcomes newcomers and helps them explore membership while strengthening connections within our existing community. Through outreach, events, and programs, this committee helps grow our congregation and builds bridges between Beth Shalom and the wider Napa Valley community.

Oneg Committee

Chair: WendyEllen Cochran 

Coordinates our post-service gatherings, working with member hosts to create meaningful Shabbat celebrations with delicious food and wine. Ensures our community can come together to share food, conversation, and connection.

Pool Committee

Chair: Roberta Solomon

Partners with Makai Swim School to manage our pool facility, coordinating member access and programming to provide recreational opportunities for our community.

Ritual Committee

Chair: Howard Eisenstark 

Works closely with clergy to enhance our worship experiences, maintaining ritual items and supporting all aspects of services and celebrations throughout the Jewish calendar.
