We are troubled and concerned by this weekend's massive attack by Iran on the sovereign territory of Israel. It is the first time that Iran has attacked the State of Israel directly on its soil, and without Israel's superb air defense systems, and the support of its critical allies like the United States, there could have been an immense number of casualties and deaths. Thank God it didn't end that way.
All of us shared in the terrifying hours as we watched the events play out on television, as we prayed for the safety of our Israeli brothers and sisters. For many of us, it was triggering, and it reminded us of the terrorist attack on October 7 by Hamas. Together, these events represent an existential threat to Israel's survival.
We don't know yet how Israel will respond to this unprecedented attack, nor do we know what the future will hold with regard to the ongoing war in Gaza. In the face of so much uncertainty, many of us are anxious and afraid. Please know that all of us at CBS are available to support you in whatever ways you might need. Now more than ever is a time for community. As Jews, we need each other in a profound way.
Please come to Shabbat services, our community Passover seder, or one of our upcoming educational programs. We are here for you and want to see you.
We stand in solidarity with Israel and continue to pray for safety, security, the return of hostages, and peace. May it come speedily and in our own time.
