Dear Friends,

I am delighted to welcome you to the Congregation Beth Shalom Community. As you will see on our website, we are an open, inclusive, evolving and dynamic community. We offer a wide range of educational, religious, social and cultural programs. We know that people come to the synagogue for all kinds of reasons, and our goal is to embrace all those who enter our doors--believers, skeptics, seekers, and strugglers alike. We are committed to building a spiritual community that is a safe haven in the truest sense of the concept. Come as you are. Our aim is authenticity.

We are in the process of fulfilling a bold vision and a great dream. For over sixty years CBS has provided a home for the Jews of Napa Valley. It has met the needs of thousands of people in their journey through life by providing religious, educational, cultural and social programs. Like the CBS founders, we are now creating a new synagogue, a new home for us to live in and bring Judaism to life for generations to come.

We are a congregation that is steeped in Jewish values and traditions and also keenly aware of the challenges facing all of us in the modern world. We engage in honest and open dialogue. We listen to our members and the community. We do our best to live by the values of respect, kindness and compassion. We want you to be part of Jewish life in a way that is right for you. Whether you believe in God or have your doubts, we will provide you with a context in which to explore your identity and spirituality.

We are growing in numbers and in spirit. We are an engaged congregation with members of all ages, backgrounds and interests. This is an exciting time for our community that affirms the most positive values of Judaism: respect, compassion, seeking justice and looking for new ways to sanctify life.

We continue to serve as the center of Jewish life in Napa Valley. It is here in our new synagogue, which will be a most sacred and beautiful space, that people will come during their times of joy and sadness, their times of learning and questioning, their times of seeking solitude and finding community. We invite you to join us for any of our programs and to meet the wonderful members of the CBS family.

I look forward to seeing you at CBS, your Jewish home away from home. Please feel free to contact me should you want to talk or learn more about our community.

B’Shalom,

Rabbi Niles Goldstein
