Dear CBS members and community,
I wanted to let you know the ugly fact that CBS received a bomb threat via email this past Saturday, Shabbat. Over a dozen Bay Area Synagogues received the same email threat.
The email to CBS was part of a wave of “swatting” incidents and false bomb threats that hit over 200 Jewish congregations and institutions across the U.S. over the weekend, according to the Security Community Network, which works with the Jewish Federations of North America to coordinate safety for the organized Jewish community. Swatting incidents are hoaxes designed to send heavily armed police to a target location.
Lauren reached out immediately to our Bay Area Director of security for the Jewish Community Federation, Rafi Brinner, to make sure that the email was a hoax. Which they were able to determine by reviewing the email and the ISPs involved.
We will continue to pay heightened attention. We certainly need one another more than ever these days, and I feel blessed by the entire CBS community. Ensuring our community is safe is our most important priority right now.
