For our ancestors, prayer wasn’t just about God. It was a way of telling ourselves a story – a story about who we are, about why we are here, and about what we were sent here to do. For those who understand it, the prayerbook tells a powerful story – a story of hope, a story of empowerment, a story in which each of us has the power to change the world.
But over the millennia, the story has been lost. Too many Jews have grown up believing that religion is about dogma and that prayer is about praising the puppet master in the sky. It’s been thousands of years, and even fluent Hebrew speakers can struggle with the words.
Join me as we go back to the earliest prayers and as we discover how the prayers can be meaningful and how they can change our lives – whether we believe in God or not.
